ROMEO and JULIET in the Bronx in the 60's! EXCELLENT adaptation of the musical comedy eponymous cult. Rita MORENO and George CHAKIRIS are very charismatic, are amazing!!!! Two oscars deserved! That said, with the benefit of hindsight, it is true that the 2 main characters are the weak point of the film, which is still a pain. It's hard to believe Natalie Wood as puerto rican, especially next to the flamboyant Rita Moreno who literally steals the show! About Richard Beymer as Tony, yet beautiful boy, he totally lacks charisma; and he is to take over by Russ Tamblyn (Riff, the Jets) the more... "tough guy" and in full form! In the discharge of Beymer, his role of Tony was "impossible": ex-gang leader put-away cars lovers transfixed to the sister of his enemy? Be done without ridicule... But all this is nothing, the movie is also sublime, 50 years after! The music of Bernstein, the chores of Robbins, nothing to throw away!! Note the "Mambo" dance, old battles of our movies of hip-hop today; and then "America" sublimissime with a Chakiris very sexy and a Rita swirling in his cult dress purple! It is not attached to the heroine, the story is not exciting and music was not pleasant to us. In short, we are bored. RIO BRAVO is, for my part, one of the 10 greatest Westerns of all time. Duke WAYNE is masterful, Dean MARTIN sings "MY RIFLE, MY PONY AND ME" : one of the most beautiful songs, and it must be said that with her voice, a song becomes a masterpiece. The music of TIOMKIN and the realization of Howard HAWKS are a treat for the ears and eyes. And the legs of the beautiful Angie DICKINSON.... "Purple light in the canyon....
